Hey all,
In case anyone was wondering, I went to a summer camp in America this year (2011) with Americamp and it was phenomenal, I'll be happy to help out anyone that may have queries for future summers, feel free to post here or PM me

I've never heard of them. I've done Camp America and can recommend them. You don't tend to so camp for the money, you do it for the experience!!
Also, you may have to fly back to UK to get your visa to do camp if you are accepted so make sure you look into this before signing up.

Hey Callum, was browsing through the forum and noticed your post on Americamp.
My son has gone with them this Summer and they have been really great. When I had any concerns about anything (as mums do!) I dealt with their MD Lee McAteer and he really helped him with advice and the best deals on flights and hotels.
Initially I wanted him to go with Camp America, but he was treated really badly with them and they wanted all these up front fees where as Americamp didn't. As flutterby said he's not doing it for the money but he wants to travel afterwards and now he has a better chance to do it as they pay $1500. I have been really impressed with them and they are great value for money compared to the others that he was looking at.
He had to do a youtube video as part of his application and it seemed to be a bit more work than the others he applied with but i presume that is because they have a more stringent process.
He flys to New York next week and is going to a golf and tennis camp. Hope this helps! x0 -
If you look at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/member.php?u=1124279 and click on 'Find all posts by sallyjones' you will see 3 posts from sallyjones, who joined today, the one above and 2 earlier ones at 3.51pm and 3.54pm. When you read those posts, they look like genuine responses on threads, but when you look at the posts in context, they are actually drivel.
I have little doubt that the earlier posts are there purely to make sallyjones look like a genuine poster and make her look that bit more genuine for the sake of the post above. I can only think that sallyjones is associated with Americamp. Personally, I would avoid Americamp solely on the strength of sallyjones' postHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Hey guys, my friend applied with americamp and is over there this Summer working having a great time in the states. I know that a lot of people have applied with them from universities and never heard anything bad. Does anyone know when they open applications for next year?

I suggest you ask you Americamp yourself. From what Sally Jones says, they are very helpful.
If you know that lots of people have also applied, you could always ask them too.0 -
Thanks pine-marten I just thought I would ask, but you're right I will drop them an email, probably being asked all the time!
Welcome to the forums, have you worked at Americamp yourself?

No, I do not work for Americamp: I am actually based in a university.
I would advise anyone to check out organisations with the Year Out Group. They only deal with companies who subscribe to their code of practice.
As a new user, I cannot add links but the above site is easily found by doing a `Google' search.0 -
There's an article written by the director of AmeriCamp which compares their company against Camp America and BUNAC.
Obviously it's a little biased but it does give a fair reflection on the choice available to students now. The link is:

Sorry as I'm new to the forum I can't post direct links.0
