  • I know exactly how you feel so you're not alone. How long have you been actively deailng with your debt for? I am wondering the same as debtdesperado and think it might just take a bit of 'getting used to'. I've been in debt for all of my adult life so as much as it gets me low sometimes, I do feel empowered that I'm dealing with it and will eventually have a debt free date.

My advice is to enjoy and make the effort to do the little things that make you happy whether it's being in the garden, baking cupcakes, going for a walk on a sunny day etc etc. It's just about making that little bit of time and putting the effort into yourself.

    Good luck x

    Hi all

Thanks for your lovely messages, has made a nice start to my day reading these.

I got in from the hospital last night and just opened a bottle of wine, my OH cooked me a lovely dinner then I watched a film with him and my housemate. In between I was talking to them a little bit about whats going on and how I've been feeling and the way I see it now is no matter how I'm feeling, the debt is still there so not much point getting worked up as it wont make it go away.

I'm going to my local pub tonight to see my friends band play, its for free so I dont have to spend anything and it will be nice just to get me out of the house.

I'm actually going to try and concentrate on work today aswell and currently eating watermelon for breakfast. yummy :)

As for my debt free date, I will have a look on my lunch break and see if I can work that out.

Is there any tools on here I can use?

    Hi Sara

Glad to see you're feeling a little better today - hope you have fun at your friend's gig.

Try this calculator: http://www.whatsthecost.co.uk/snowball.aspx - you input your debt and the APR and it tells you when it will be paid off by depending on how much you pay back. You could play with that and see how adding an extra £5 a month or whatever to your repayments would bring your debt free date forward.

Good luck with it :) x

    Thanks for the link!

I put in the info and if all I put in was correct then my debt free date is Dec 2011. Which works out pretty well as I wanted to be debt free by 2012

This is only paying safe amounts (£200 on credit card and £50 on overdraft) but hopefully there will be months where I can pay more so will do that and hopefully bring the date a little closer :)

Any small amount will bring you closer especially if you try out the Save the Change idea above :) x
