Talk Talk - potential they have blackened my credit file in error - what to do ?

When I moved into my property a year ago, I attempted to get Talk Talk to transfer the line to me. Well, the short story is that they screwed around for months and then I told them to stuff it and got agreement to just cancel everything from their online people.
Roll forward to last week and I get a debt collection agency pursuing me for £275. I phone Talk Talk and eventually get someone to take ownership of this and stop palming me off. A day and several emails later I get agreement that it will all be sorted out and there is no debt owing.
However, they are stalling over whether they have reported anything to a credit reference agency. They admit there was no contract so their charging me a service I neither received not wanted is unlawful. On the back of that, anything reported to agencies is also unlawful.
So firstly, does anyone know whether Talk talk report monthly ? and if not, then do they report small bad debts ?
Following on, if they have reported it, how easy is it to get the records removed ?
Thanks

The only way to be certain is to get a copy of your credit files. I suspect if the DCA is chasing you for the 'debt' that is 12months old then its likely there will be something on your file (probably a default)
If anything has been reported by talktalk or the DCA you would need to write to them to insist they remove it. It can be done but it usually seems to take a bit of hassling of the creditor to get it removed. Once they do agree to remove it, it could take up to 5weeks or so for your file to be updated.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Hi property.advert,
Sorry to hear you have had charges added to an account in error. If you have been supplied with the account details that the charges have been applied to then you will be able to register and post at https://www.talktalkmembers.com/forums. We'll be able to ensure that the account is cancelled and credits are raised. We can also ensure that if anything has been added to your credit file relating to this matter is removed.
If you have any problems with registration for the TalkTalk forums please use the contact us form - the link is at the bottom of the forum.
Cheers

Thanks for your support Em.
I am waiting for a seemingly non arriving email from a chap in customer services who called to say the charges were being removed reference the Talk Talk policy. Perhaps you can state the policy here ? That would be a step forward and inform all members of MSE just what your company policy is.
I was on www.talktalkmembers.com/forums and referred customer service to your colleague there but as I stated, I understood that all was at an end in 3rd quarter of 2009.
Just to point out, that Talk Talk have never once written to me to even request any payment. Had they done so, I would have been able to resolve this much earlier. At the moment, I am withholding my claim for compensation for my time wasted but my patience extends only so far. I shall give them until the end of this week.0 -
So Em, can you please post up Talk Talk's company policy as to whether monthly records are reported to a credit agency and whether bad debts of £275 or so are ?0

Like any other company i assume TalkTalk report late payments and a default+ balance once the account has been defaulted. Oweing £275 is fine so long as you do pay it off by your payment date, or atleast within 3 months so a default is not actionedAlthough no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

Emma, you were quick on this when Talk Talk were being mentioned. I would appreciate your equally quick response when asked to publish your company policy.
I am still waiting for your colleague to email me and my patience wears thinner by the day.0
