Capquest hounding me for a debt that is not mine !

Options
Hello

I am new to the board and am writing from real frustration with a debt agency called Capquest. I have been written to by them numerous times as they allege I owe money to Thames Water.
I phoned them and queried the debt and they said it was for four months in 2009 for a property that I no longer lived in or owned. I sold the place in 2007 and they are asking me to send them a solicitors letter to prove it . Well that would cost me £100 to do and the debt itself is only £130.
I have now got a letter from them saying they will send door step collectors round. I am really upset about this as I have small children and I am worried they might answer the door to them. I am really angry that inspite of my phone calls and emails explaining the situation they persist in chasing me for a debt that is not even mine ! It feels like they are harassing me - how on earth can I stop them ?

Best wishes Cazza

    Hi Cazza,

I don't have an answer for you but good luck in getting it sorted out.
I think they're might be a template letter somewhere that you can send asking them to prove the debt is yours, hopefully someone will be along soon and post a link to it for you.
I'll have a look too xx

Hi cazza - have you ever sent the prove it letter to capquest? If not I would do this - you could also add in the bit about not allowing them to visit you (although for £130 is highly unlikely any doorstop collectors will turn up).

If you sold it in 2007, you can just say "the property was sold in 2007, this is a matter of public record" and leave it at that. If they do doorstep you, as it has not gone to court, their doorsteppers have no rights.
