Argos Returns - Exercise Bike

I have recently returned a faulty exercise bike to Argos (magnetic resistance had failed and was clunking with every pedal turn). They accepted it back no problem. This was the 2nd bike we'd had with this problem, so decided to try another brand to see how we got on.

Have had the other one for 3 days. The problem is that it isn't long enough in the leg - even with seat on highest setting it's cramped for me and DH (not at same time, you understand :p). Also, the display panel seems to calculate very quickly, ie distance/calories don't tally etc.

Their policy is that you can return within 30 days, as long as in original packaging, saleable etc. As bike is assembled this isn't the case. Or should I return as faulty as I'm only 5ft 9 and it clearly isn't suitable for a person of average height.

Advice welcome - thanks!

  • Did you buy this in-store or through the website? If the latter, the Distance Selling Directive applies and you can return within 7 days without having to state a reason.

    Was in store.
I do think the speedo etc is faulty. However, I guess the height issue just makes it unsuitable, which is annoying.

  • Well, if it's faulty you should be entitled to return it. While the height (or, rather, lack of it) is an issue to you, it is arguably not a defect, so I wouldn't mention that to Argos. Return it on the basis that it is faulty. As long as everything was o.k. when you first assembled it, I don't think they can reasonably expect you to keep the packaging.

On a different note, the customer reviews on the Argos website can be quite useful to find out about a product before purchase. Not sure about exercise bikes, but I stayed away from a couple of rowers because reviews specifically said "too small if you are over x'x"".
