I wouldnt stock up on milk too much as the brand you buy might not suit your baby.

Best to get a couple and see how you get on.

As others have said though BF is an easy and cheap option, but I guess not for everyone.

getting back to the title of the thread rather than a lecture on the benefits of BF:mad: If someone asked for the cheapest place to buy carrots, wonder if you would have got 3 posts telling you to grow your own and the health benefits of organic produce:D

You asked about baby milk and the cheapest places to buy it;). None of the supermarkets will now give loyalty points on formula as they are no longer allowed to do so ( it is seen as promoting formula) therefore the price rarely varies apart from a couple of pence in each store. With asda now offering the chance to get money back if anywhere sells something cheaper than them, I would say it would be worthwhile getting it from them as you will get the difference back if any of the other supermarkets sell it cheaper.

Good Luck with the new baby and do whatever YOU feel is best for YOUR baby!

hi congrates on the soon to be arivial on the bubs!:j
As some of the other ladies said I whould not stock up on baby milk because ur little one might not like it.
I started on sma gold then aptimal now on cow and gate!.
With cow and gate 1st milk You get vouchers in it for the next stage milk.
Its only a £1.00 off but every little helps!.

I breast fed my little one for one week, but my milk was not enough for bubs. And I had a infection and the antibotics whould go through my breast milk and give baby the poo's

It does make me angry how much pressure people put on mothers to breast fed. Yes its free but they are many situations that a mum cannot bresat fed. And at the end of the day its up to the mum and what she thinks best......

Buy a Mouli grater for baby's grub and then with luck your baby can eat the same stuff as you do,re the milk I would wait and see which stuff your little one will take to.O.K. I know Breast milk is good but not knowing your circumstances I couldn't say whether it would suit you or not.Perhaps you have to return to work fairly quickly and need formula instead of BM but you do what makes both you and baby happy and don't be pressured into doing anything you don't want to You are about to start on the greatest experience of your life ,bringing a new little person into the world who will be your resposibility for many years to come .Enjoy every minute because it whizzes by in a flash.
Good luck and let us all know how your getting on .we love new little people on here ,even old grannies like me.

I have to tell you a story that my midwife told me about another one of her patients - this was about 23 years ago. She could not understand why she constantly had cracked and bleeding nipples, she was using all the cream etc. Turns out she was sterilizing them before every feed (sterilizing solution, not boiling!!)!

Have to say though, breast feeding is not only cheap, it is also extremely convenient, and expressing milk enables others to feed baby too!! But if bottle feeding is the way to go then just make sure you get a milk baby is happy with before you go mad, and remember that the milk for dairy intolerant babies is available on prescription (just in case).
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

breastfeeding is great as long as you can get on with it. I was determined to and fed my first till 9.5 mths, my second till 6 mths (the first kept climbing on me and stopped me feeding so I switched) and the third till 4 mths as i couldn't produce the quality of milk as i never got time to sit down. I used cow and gate formula with the last two and aptimil with the first when i switched him. No discounts til six months I am afraid!! Plus the mega fab health benefits of breastfeeding - really, think about it :)
    3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

My mum used to give me diluted evapourated milk, which i believe was fairly common place before formula became widely available.

Before that......ever heard of the term 'wet nurse'?
