Sony DSC H1 now £174.99..any good ??

Looking through the RO list (thanks again) I noticed that this Sony digital camera was heavily reduced and as i am looking to upgrade my current sony cybershot camera i am thinking that this could be a good buy ?

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5603488/Trail/C%24cip%3D43568.Photography%3EC%24cip%3D46062.Clearance%2BPhotography%3EC%24cip%3D46131.Clearance%2BSony%2Bphotography.htm

There isn't any near me but i have found one in York which i am going to reserve and travel over tomorrow but obviously if anyone finds one on their doorstep and would be so kind as to post one to me (i would covers all costs) then please let me know.

Does anyone have one of these ? are they any good ? We will be using it to mostly take wedding, holiday pics and pictures of ds etc. so is this a good buy ? I have a review of the camera and it rates it quite highly(http://www.cameras.co.uk/details/sony-dsc-h1.cfm)

Any help/advise would be most appreciated.

Its a good buy, I bought one.

Not yet actually powered it up but it feels well built, a little heavy and designed to look a lot more expensive than it is.

It may be wise investing in a screen protector as the screen is already a little smudged just from me peeling the factory protector off to have a look at the LCD

I bought mine yesterday, and I'm fairly happy with it, if you particularly want a 12X optical zoom I think it is a pretty good buy, however if you don't really want a massive zoom range I think there are probably better alternatives for similar money.

It feels a little cheapish, it struggles to focus in low light, but usually manages it if you are at the wider end of the zoom.

The electronic viewfinder seems really tiny, though maybe this has something to do with the fact that I wear glasses so I can't get my eye as close to the viewfinder, it is functional though.

When I first took a few snaps indoors (it was raining outside), the pictures seemed a little too contrasty and artificial for me, so I set it to minus on contrast and sharpness and I found it a lot better.

I bought it as a mid sized alternative to my Ricoh GRD and Olympus E1, where I want more focal length range than the GRD offers, and don't want to carry the bulk of the E1, hopefully the weather will be better tomorrow so I can put it through it's paces.

There were none in the stores near me, so I had to travel to get it (rotheram, they only had the one). I hope you are happy with yours when you get it.

Make sure you read this, as new Sony owners, in case you get the issue in the future:

Many thanks financial_filly for highlighting the DSC-H1 in the list.

    The camera is excellent.

My son plays cricket and all summer i've been taking photos on a 3x optical zoom nikon. Unfortunately the results have been disappointing, the players appearing as dots on the photograghs. If I used the digital zoom the picture quality decreased rapidly.

Got this Sony and wow - even on 12x zoom the pictures are razor sharp with great colour and the players seeming so close. Whats more when you zoom into the picture when editing the detail remains remarkably sharp.

I'm definately a layman when it comes to photography but even I am producing some pretty good pictures.

    Thanks again.

Thanks for the link, does anybody know if the DSC-H1 fits ok? I ask because the W5 AND W7 are much more compact than the DSC-H1.

the case was shown with the DSC-H1 at the bottom of the argos page so assumed it would fit.

    sc52,

The Argos website lists the case in the Sony accessories kit as a "LCSCFR". A quick check on the Sony website http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProduct.action?product=LCS-CFR&site=odw_en_GB&pageType=Compatibles&category=ACC+Cases lists what cameras Sony think the bag is compatable with (no DSC-H1 listed).
