Moorcroft - BT account
debrag
So I moved out of my flat October 2009 and have had no dealings with BT since and my account to my knowledge was closed.
I was never sent any letters/emails about charges for cancelling etc but today got a letter from Moorcroft stating I know owe £157.25
I have managed to view my account online and the break down is as follows:
Previous bill = £52.03
late payment charge = £7.50
phoneline (1 jan-mar 10) = -£8.73
cancelation charge = £75.00
Total = £125.80
I don't have this sort of money, can I go back to BT and sort out an arrangement? I know I owe this money.

BT have passed the debt to Moorcroft so you would need to negotiate an arrangement with them. Beware though, their staff are not the brightest of sparks and their telephone manner stinks.0

I would not telephone moorcroft under any circumstances.
Were you tied into a contract with BT? does your original service agreement with mention the cancellation charge? do you agree you owe for the last bill of £52.03?
You say your account was to your knowledge closed? did you contact them to cancel the account and arrange for the last bill to be sent to your new address? if you did this can you prove it? i.e do you have a copy of the letter or a note of the date of the phone call (so they can check their records).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
I agree about not contacting moorcroft by phone. Do everything by post.
If you do actually owe the debt but can't afford to pay it all at once, make them an offer to pay say £10 a month? Or whatever you can afford. They may want to see a statement of affairs to see your incomne and outgoings though.
They are pretty nasty at moorcroft and will probably tell you all sorts of lies to get you to pay it all in one go but don't let them fool you. Think happy & you'll be happy
I :heart2: my doggies

I realise that I owe the debt and will not be phoning Moorcroft at any point.0

Might be worth a quick call to BT to see if they have sold the debt to moorcroft or just instructed them to recover on BT behalf, if the latter BT may be willing for you to deal direct with them.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0

You need to find out what happen with your bill.
At a guess you say you moved out in October and never paid the bill.
So each month a new bill was added until probably December/January. At which point 3 missed payments meant they cancelled the contract hence the £75 fee.
You were tied to a 12 or 18 month contract so you do owe this money, BT may or may not allow you to deal direct with them, but you do need to come to an arrangement to pay even if only £20 a month.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
So after going onto the Moorcroft site and using the link for offer of payment I have today received a letter from them saying that they are no longer dealing with the account so now it's back to BT0

I've had a similar proplem with Moorcroft. Having spoke to BT they had passed the debt onto Moorcrofts. After much hassle from them I agreed to pay £12 per week and then they want a month up front or take me to court. I did politely tell them I'm on a DMP but that didn't wash with them. So SO for £12 set up and no month up front we'll wait and see:mad:0

Well BT say as my account is closed I can't set up a plan with them, well I can't afford to pay it in one go!
Am going to see if the payment screen online lets me pay a little of it. Plus I'll check my online bank account as they usually have company's already listed to be able to pay.0
