With a step account you cannot go overdrawn.
With the current plus account I think you can go overdrawn and then will then charge you hefty fees.
A current plus account can have an overdraft.

I think she has misled you regarding the credit check. With a step account they should only be doing an identity check, with the current plus I think they would do a full credit check.

    .
You would think so and all the marketing says that but I have managed to unwittingly take my Step account overdrawn. Why did I do that? They charged me a £1.25 processing fee on internet transactions which I did not take into account. Luckily it was less than £15 so I wasn't charged.

well she insisted about ten times she had to do a full check for the step account, she said they do the same check for all accounts and depending on what comes back depends on what you can have,
so basicly its a step account that can go into the red zone oh great thats all i needed anyway i wanted to be able to learn to be good with my money so as long as i only spend what i have in the bank no biggy,

would this type of account look better on my credit file,is there any good reason to have this over the step account?

in reality it is not a huge fee unless you are making large numbers of transactions every month
It's a huge fee when one of the purchases was only for £1.00 on mycitydeal.... Abbey/Santander did not charge and the Halifax did not charge it was only Natwest that charged that fee and refused to refund it so I'll never again use that account for internet purchases.

Beware on new members posting sentances which make little sense and who seem to be advertising on their profile page ;)

Lee - there should be no fees on the account providing you stay in credit. Why did you want a basic account in the first place - is it just that you think it will be easier to manage your money or are you in a DMP or similar? If its just to keep better track of things and providing you are always aware of what your balance is then I don't suppose the account you have been given is much different to the step account, providing you don't use the cheque book etc (although I'd be annoyed in principal if I wanted a basic account and they'd hassled me in to a different account).

Another reason why they want you to have other accounts is that they (the bank clerk) gets more commission for opening accounts considered to be of higher value.
