Sorting out finances

Hi Guys

We've been on a DMP with CCCS since November last year, all is going well and the DMP has lifted a huge amount of stress of us.

I am working through each debt and reclaiming PPI and Charges on each account, again a massive thank you to this site.

Whilst sorting out my OH's paperwork I noticed that an account that had been with Viking Collections was transferred/bought out by Aktiv Kapital. The last letter we received from Viking stated that the outstanding balance was £800 yet, the first letter received from Aktiv Kapital stated the outstanding amount was £850. ( Yes I know we should of spotted this earlier, this happened around a time when we had our heads stuck in the sand).

Do you think that we have grounds to dispute the amount that AK say we owe - I don't want to get the debt wiped out - we spent the money and we want to pay it back. It's just that I think AK are trying to get more than just the money that we actually owe?

you can and probably should request a break down of your account from this creditor, and also try and match this up with any paper work you have from the previous company which owned the debt. the likelyhood in my mind is that the 'extra' £50 will be down to either the wonderfully ambiguous admin charges or some extra interest/late charges between your last statement with the old company and the time you took your head out of the sand.

once you know where this extra £50 came from you can then try and work out if it is worth while fighting to get it taken off

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)
