Paid off the credit card!!

Been being a good girl recently by focusing on the debt with the highest interest rather than trying to do a little bit extra off everything (and getting nowhere fast) like I was and have have just managed to settle the credit card for the first time since....well probably since we've had it if I'm honest. :o

Of course we've now got to be mega careful for the rest of the month but other than my SIL's birthday, which I've now sorted, the only other non bill expense is doing the kids school uniform so I reckon its do-able. Feels really great and the credit card is now STRICTLY for hubbie's work expenses with no exceptions and it feels such a relief!

Just wanted to share, I'll shut up now! :D

    Thanks everyone!

Well we're a bit of a way off savings yet but can focus on the Inland Revenue now which is the other big-hanging-over-our-heads one. They did agree to £100 a month, half our 'disposable' income (if you can call it that!) until a review later in the year but also said they wanted any extra money that might come our way. Its been upsetting because we've felt like we're being treated like tax dodgers or something (this debt really wasn't our fault) but hey ho and onwards we go eh?

Back on topic though yes this is a relief and I owe it to finding MSE! :)

Don't feel too bad about HMRC. It's their job to get our taxes in as soon as possible, so you will feel a little pressure from them. Also, when you have your regular reviews don't offer them more than you can afford. They really would rather a figure you can both agree on that you can maintain & not default on. It took me exactly 12 years after my self employment ended in August 1994 to pay off my debt to them. I finally made my last payment last month. However, you will pay interest as long as the debt is outstanding
& they will not freeze it.
