Cheques clearing & fallen off the wagon again :(

I paid a cheque into my Barclays account on Thursday about lunch time, my "current cleared" amount is showing as a minus- when will the cheque clear (I was actually going to transfer the whole amount to my savings but have made a huge spending error and will prob have to use some of it/keep some in my current account to prevent megoing over my overdraft- am so annoyed with myself!!

The spending has happened cos I have been up & down with moodswings recently, having relationship worries, future concerns etc & constantly comparing myself to other people my age and feeling like I ammissing out/not doing what I should be etc but the reality is I don't seem to know what I want:(

Sorry for the rant, advice re the bank/cheque would be gratefully received, thank you

It should take 3 working daysfor the cheque to clear. If you paid it in in the morning then it would include Thursday, if it was later on in the afternoon then it Thursday won't count. Saturday might or might not be counted depending on your bnk and branch and Monday was a bank holiday, so it should clear today if you paid it in in the morning and tomorrow if you paid it in late afternoon.

Try not to beat yourself up over the spending, it happens to us all! And it's easy to get down about it, especially if you've a lot of other stuff going on. It might help to rework your budget to include a small treat every month or a larger treat every three or four months - whatever works best for you?

I know this works better for me as it means I'm less likely to fall off the wagon, think, "b*gger this" and go on a splurge! Though it doesn't work all the time ;). Now I just pick myself up, dust myself down, shake my head anf jump back on that wagon!

    Good luck :)

I'm afraid Barclays takes 4 working days to clear cheques nowadays. :( Not really sure why, since it used to be 3 days like everywhere else, they're a law unto themselves.

3 working days for me as my work bank at the same branch, otherwise it is 5 working days for any other cheque and not been any less other than work cheques.

Bit of a pain can't wait until cheques are gone and its all bank transfers.
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!
