Hi all,

i'm wondering if you could help me solve a quickquid problem. I just got off the phone to them and i'm not sure what just happened is legal?!

I've had some financial issue recently  so opted for a quickquid loan but after some more terrible luck and bad judgement i defaulted. After not hearing from them for months today i called to set up a payment plan as i am finally on my way up but as i handed over my card details something didn't feel right.

!!!!THEN the guy told me he couldn't load up my card details for a payment 2 weeks from now and asked if my account was empty??!! To which i started asking if he was taking money out of my account and was that legal? He stated he wasn't taking money but here needed to be money in the account for the details to be saved on the system. To which i confirmed i was not giving permission for money to be taken as he started to say the calls are recorded.

I asked for manager and all he said he could do was put me through to his voicemail and the manager would call back, however rather than transfer my call he cut me off.

I'm now left with no credit to call back and wondering if that was even legal?

What i really want to know is if it is legal for a company to take your card details and check if your account has any money in it? When you were giving them to set up a payment in 14 days time?

Thanks

some companies will debit 1.00 to save a card on there system, when we added a debit card to my wifes aqua online payment it earmarked a payment for 1.00 so quite normal in my opinion.

QQ are a bit of a nightmare to deal with regarding payment plans, they generally only agree to split your balance into 4 payments, if you want to spread it to more they generally refuse so make sure you can afford what they will demand.

QQ also report to the CRA's so the defaulted account will be showing on your credit reports and will have a negative effect on future applications.

The alternative is that you leave it until they send it to a debt collector, this is not as bad as it sounds, you should be able to negotiate a smaller payment arrangement to pay it off.

so yes back to your original question it is normal for some companies to debit a small amount of money from your card normally 1.00 or less to make sure the card is valid, what i would do is get them to send you an email with the payment arrangement on and say once you have recieved that you will call back with your card details for them, this way if they do take more then the agreed amount you will have a leg to stand on with your bank if you decide to try and claim it back.

    wayne.

    Thank you,

I don't think it would have been a problem though. i have more than a £1 in the account so if that was the case it should have through and i would have been none the wiser but he said there was a problem and asked for another card account.

perhaps he was trying to debit your first installment ? and not the 1.00 ? you can ring your bank and ask who has tried to take funds and how much, your bank can tell you.

    Hiya matey

Can you confirm regards the above, what CRA's do they report to? What entry shows up? Do they only report if you default or generally if you just have a normal monthly loan? Have you been in default with them?

Sorry for questions, I ask cos someone I know uses them all the time and he says they are great - trying to tell me these companies are great is another matter altogether, he'll learn in time I s'pose :rotfl:

Thanks matey - hope you're keeping well
