I think you'll have more luck posting on the consumables board than here.
Maybe a Mod will come along & move you over. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
this is the consumables board - is it not!? married to the man of my dreams! 9-08-09

You also need to buy a chip resetter, until you reset the chip in the cartridge the printer will still think it is empty.
It may be possible to fool your printer using the utility in the link below, but you will need to read through the help section after downloading to find out if you can, as I have never personally used it for this function, I have always just bought compatibles, just as cheap and a lot less hassle.
Great utility though allows you to clean individual cartridges and a host of other things.

"where would i buy a chip resetter and how much do they cost?"
Morrisons sell [or until recently did] an epson chip resetter - they sit on a hanger with all the other ink cart stuff in the media isle [DVD's CD's photo paper etc]
It's call a 'zapper' or something like it and is a small white plastic thingy that easily fits in the palm of your hand and works off a AA battery - there are I think 2 contacts that you place against the chip on the refilled cartridge and then you press the button and it 'zaps' the chip apparently resetting the memory back to 'full'.
Costs about £6.00 i seem to remember.
Never used 1 myself - I use cheapo compatibles - way easier and cleaner.
I did notice this ... http://www.mx2.co.uk/default.asp?part=VCHIP ... but am not 100% sure if it is for epson - they have a phone number at the top of the page so you could always ring and ask.
they are based in Jersey and I have ordered twice from them with no probs - postage is £1.95 per order so if you see other stuff you can have it delivered quite cheaply
Other than that eBay always have loads of themLearn to laugh at yourself ... everyone else has:rotfl:

If they are unbranded ones just ognore it, some i have had and the ink leveldoesnt show on screen, but the epson branded ones show up. Common sense tells me that if my printer is printing theres ink in it

What printer have you got? The SSCLG utility is great, but it doesn't work for all.
You can do things like freeze the ink level (not a brilliant idea!) and reset the purge counter - very useful, but only if you are then going to strip the machine down and clean the felt in the purge tank (VERY messy), which otherwise would require slinging the machine.
The chip resseters (see above) are easy to use. Just fit the chip into the notches on it and hold it there until the red light goes out and the green one comes on. Job done.
There is an argument, though, that with Epson compatible cartridges selling for about £1 is it worth the mess of refilling?0
