U've had brilliant advice from Dark convict, couldn't run without saying good luck.

Your do it, from the sounds of it, you got on the debt free path, but wasn't quite sure what route to take, the snowball calculator is an absolute godsend, it does the working out and you can actually see the dates.

    Good luck with everything x

Thanks for the good luck, am feeling quite positive only going to spend if I absolutely have too. I've already changed my minimum payment to a higher amount on the highest apr and going to put anything spare I can onto the card.

I really do feel more positive about everything and I am hoping to see a real difference.

This time last year I was dependent on credit cards and had no idea about budgeting. I've not spent on credit cards in months and am aware where all my money goes. Baby steps ...

Getting down grocery costs is difficult but is generally the best place to save money.

I have never had to do it, and was probably more like on £250 a month for a person of one during my placement year but i could afford it. SO i started this topic to get advice - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2234113

Have you thought about looking at Aldi/Lidl for groceries? Do you have access to a freezer so you can batch cook or buy reduced items at the end of the day and freeze them?

Do you buy lunches at work or take a packed lunch with you?

Buy some clippers and do your own hair?

Do you have anything you can ebay or sell at a carboot?

Can you change your entertainment to evenings in with friends and some beers/wine?

    Hi slummymummyof3,

I house share so no real freezer space. I did spend about £5 a day on lunch, now I'm doing tins of soup and sandwiches. Might see what i can sell on ebay.

    Thanks for your input

2 things which you might consider:
    - you travel to work 1 hour each way which costs you £120 (petrol) + car maintenance but you rent just a room; can't you relocate to somewhere closer to your work place saving you some travel time and money?; also I do not think your rent is that low.
    - you want to keep your job (and I fully understand it), yet your net salary is below £20k for 40-50 hrs/week + 1 hour travel each way. is it worth to keep it whilst struggle with debts and not being able to go via DMP and alikes?

    Hi jadex,

The living situation isnt ideal, but I do have plans to move closerr to work with my boyfriend. But neither of us have the money for a deposit yet.

    We're saving now.

I earn just over £25K but I love my job and I am hoping to progress within my field, but the recession isn't geat.

I feel like I can do it, and it's not impossible???
