Painting plastic garden furniture

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, I wasn't too sure whether this would fit here, Greenfingers or DIY! So please move if not here lol

I have been given a big garden table and 4 chairs off my mum. Its in that green plastic, its nothing fancy but it was free and I cant turn down a freebie!

Anyway its all a bit sun faded, so I was wondering if theres anything on the market I can use to revamp it/ paint it? Ive done a search on good old google but its only bringing up American sites so not sure if there plastic is the same as the stuff here.

Has anyone revamped plastic furniture before- through painting or is there any cleaning product I can get that would bring up the colour again? Can you point me in the right direction?

TIA :)

The colour won't come up again, but I have painted white garden furniture with plastikote spray paint and it worked fine, don't know about changing from a darker colour though? You could paint the underside and see if it takes first?

    Hi retro_bluebell,

I left a ten seater green plastic table and chairs out all winter and they were very faded so I thought I was going to have to replace them. :o

However, when I was getting some trees cut back about a month ago, the tree surgeon was having trouble with one of his machines and he used the table to fix it but he spilt some petrol.....when I tried to clean it up, that end of the table seemed to have it's colour restored and looked almost as good as new. :j

So, not having any petrol to hand to fix the other half of the table I thought I had nothing to lose and sprayed on some WD40 and rubbed it in with a cloth, left it in the sunshine to dry off and for any residue to evaporate, and it did the same job. :j

The table now looks great...the original colour is restored and although it's not quite as good as new, it definitely looks much better than before and I think we might just get a few more years out of it. :D
