    Hello!

Saw this pop to the top of my hotlist as I posted on here ages ago! I am proud to say I still haven't bitten my nails and these days you would never believe what they used to be like.

I bit them for 25 years and they were in such a state, there was nothing left of them. I tried stopping a few times and just couldn't. Now they are strong and healthy, I wear them just past the end of my fingers, and have a nail polish collection that is slightly too big :o

In the early days, I found that stop n grow and similar did nothing for me - I would just ignore the taste. The best thing for me was to paint them with clear nail polish every time I felt the urge - you cant bite wet nails. This wasn't practical at work, so that did need a bit of willpower. I think I can remember trying various tactics of tapping my nails on my teeth, gently nibbling the tips of my fingers etc :p

The nail polish I used was this one from Boots 17 http://www.boots.com/en/17-Nail-Xtras-Strengthening-Base-Coat-Nail-Polish_927392/ It is really very good especially for £4 - it works really well, dries quickly and leaves a slight glimmer to your nails. I am currently using OPI nail envy which is about £18 in boots, cheaper online, and would go back to the cheaper one when it runs out because it does pretty much the same job.

I would recommend Lush's 'Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter' if you have dry or raggedy cuticles - it's really greasy but smoothes them up lovely. It's not really one to carry in your bag due to the greasiness but it's a good one to massage in in the evening, leave to soak in, then wash off just before bed.

    Good luck all of you!

    xx

oh my goodness, another lifelong biter here :( I gave up before I got married (18 years ago this year!) so my rings would look lovely, and they did, but then started again after my dad died (later the same year), then couldn't stop doing it at all, until I became determined again and took up French Knitting! I managed to grow them again and they looked lovely, then another stressful situation came up and I started again! It just always starts with stressful situations, and the ragged edge, even tiny ones I have to bite it off. Plus, evenings are the worst, when I'm watching TV or even reading a book. I bought a Leighton Denny crystal file in Boots a little while ago, promising myself that I would give up, sort of half promising myself really, and I haven't 'got round' to doing it :(

I am 44 now and it's been a lifelong habit which I am determined to get over! I really would like to wear lovely nail colours in the summer, and now is the time to start if I am going to be able to do that. All the tips on here are fantastic and I am going to get some things to help me succeed, hand cream, cuticle cream etc, plus the willpower this time is high! I will remember the germ thing!

Good luck to everyone giving up and well done to those that have :):):T
