Thomson Twin Tuner 500GB Freeview+ Recorder - £29.99 @ Tesco

Hi,

First ever post, but just bought a Thomson DTI 6021-50 500GB Freeview+ box at Tesco Addlestone for £29.99. They had loads in stock, bright orange box, you cant miss it! List price on Tesco website is £149.97.

I know Thomson isnt the best of brands, but for this price, surely cant go wrong?

Specification:
-Twin Tuner
-500GB (Upto 360hrs recording time)
-Twin Scart
-TopUp TV Slot

Good for you, not in my local tesco, would have thought they have left a 1 off the front of the price:)

Just a word of warning.I bought the 250 gb version of these from Tesco a few months ago for a similarly cheap price. It was nothing but trouble and the 2 replacements i recieved were equally crap.I've got a feeling they were reconditioned, hence the price.
    Hope yours turn out better.

We had one of these (smaller drive) a couple of years ago. It has to be the most infuriating machine ever sold. Missed recordings, phantom recordings that fill the hard drive, recordings that crash the box as soon as you highlight them so the only way of recovering is to push the delete key sequence quicker than the box can load up a preview of the recording, and even loss of your entire library. In the end we took it back after battling for nearly a year and Comet were not the slightest bit surprised to see it return.

Only a bargain if you enjoy frustration, anger and disappointment (when your favourite program doesn't record). I suspect these boxes were an attempt by Sky to bring Freeview recorders into disrepute!

Replaced it with a Humax 9200t. I've had to reset it less times in the last 18 months than the Thompson would need in a day.

Had one dodgy one. Replaced no problem and this one has operated perfectly. Most of the problems seems to have arisen due to the digital switchover. For £30 the kids can have one each to stop cloggin mine up with Glee and Doctor Who!!!!

29.99 for a 500gb hard drive is cheap, as the tend to use special drives with very low accoustic values.:money:
