Electric Adjustable Bed...which one?

I have been reading with interest the many posts on mattresses, beds etc and have realised the great opportunity that exists to be ripped off!
We require a double electric adjustable bed with independent controls for each side. Perhaps this is really two single beds close together.
It seems that while you can be taken to the cleaners when buying a mattress the chances of this happening when buying an electric beds is magnified with prices ranging from hundreds to thousands of pounds.
Price is not really an issue if quality is there. Have looked at a couple of internet sites that sell around 10 different makes/models but offer no facilities to view or try.
So where to begin?
Thanks, Mike

good luck. theres as many scammers/con men selling electric beds as there are DG units.
whatever you do dont pay more than say 1300 quid. for a 5ft double.
any more than that and you are most certainly being ripped off.Get some gorm.0 -
Ormus is right for a basic model, but it depends on what specifications you want.
There are different types of lifting mechanism. Most just lift the head or foot end, abut some lift the whole sleeping surface for things like physiotherapy.
The type of mattress will have a bearing on the price.
Also some are available with vibration massage pads.
So don't go for features that you don't actually need as this can double the price.
For a double you would usually be buying two small singles that connect together. This will obviously push the price up also.
If I were you I would stay away from big brand names and big chain stores if you want good quality at a low price, and shop on line from a seller who gives a proper satisfaction guarantee that allows you to actually unpack and sleep on the mattress. This way it is in their interest to make sure that you make the right choice the first time.0 -
Been looking at matress construction re number of springs, type of spring, and while I can get information on just a matress it has been impossible so far to find detailed information on adjustable beds.
What I really want to find is a good quality manuafacturer with whom I can discuss the requirements and agree a specification.
I had Adjustamatic on the phone and they wanted me to part with lots of money on the basis of seeing a 1/3 scale working model and a brochure.
The search continues,

Stay well away from companies like Adjustamatic, Craftmatic, and many of the others with dodgy selling techniques.0 -
afaik. there are no uk good quality manufacturers. they all import the basic bed/electrics from china and then maybe use a uk made mattress.
probably one factory supplies the vast majority of the beds, which are then sold under various names.
the mattresses will be made by one of the famous names in uk beds, or one of the few independant makers left. those independant makers are well known to the trade but not to the public as they dont brand them or sell direct/retail.
the real big profits are made by the rip off merchants as named above.

I don't know where you got your information from, but I can tell you that it is complete rubbish. There are a number of UK manufacturers, and Kozeesleep for one are very proud of the fact that they use the motors that Mercedes use for the wipers in their truck (so I should think they are Bosch).0 -
I bought a “special order” bed size 6ft3in by 3ft9in (but not adjustable) 10 years ago from these and its still as good as new.
It was delivered and assembled in the bedroom 10 days after it was ordered.

This seems to be their on-line sales site

When we visited the showroom we got to see and test all the mattresses they made before choosing which one and we saw the workshop floor where the beds were made. With the amount of money you are likely to have to spend on an adjustable I would suggest that a visit really would be worthwhile.
So what spec was your bed, and how much did it cost?0 -
I’m a punter, not an expert and have no real idea about specs.
It cost £410 in total including delivery.
The receipt says “One 3’9” * 6’3” Comfort Soft, Sprung Edge.”
Being originally from Cardiff, I knew of the existence of the company and its reputation.
I went there with the measurements of the space available for the bed to go in and they did the rest.
As far as I was concerned we got fantastic value for the money but it was 10 years ago.
Who knows if they are the same today? I don’t, and all I would recommend to the OP is that he takes a look.
The reason I asked was because their prices look quite expensive.
Many of the independent bed manufacturers will make beds to customers requirements.0
