my wife struggled to find a job that worked around kids and school and in the end she got a job at the school they went to...you then only work when they are at school...term time you are off and it must pay minimum wage which can be topped up with tax credit(i think)

Hi Pixie, just read your thread. My OH is a taxi driver too so can sympathise with the situation you are in. OH is making a liveable wage at the minute but only because he does 3x12 hours and 3x7 hour shifts a week at night. I appreciate that your hours are very limited because of the children. The work just isnt there at the moment and to make it worse in our area the jobcentre are paying for long term unemployed to get their badge and plates so its flooding the system.

Wishing you the best and hope you find a solution xxx

    Hi Pixienix,
I'm sorry to hear of your situation, especially as you're willing to work so hard: it's very unfair that you are being penalised for your ex's behaviour.
The only thing that comes to mind - and it's a long time since I looked into it for myself, so my thinking may be out of date - is whether you could become a childminder? It would depend on various things including your own children's ages, but it could mean you being there for them at the crucial times.
    Wishing you all the best.
