I bought one of these and then found out that i had a 4th gen ipod but the battery still fits.
Absolutely brilliant. I was quoted £47 for an exchange.

    .............

I specifically bought a 3G one from Maplin even though I've got a 4th GEN for a very good reason (read on below)
The 3G one is actually smaller than the 4G - same height and thickness but several (4 - 6?) millimetres narrower.
You just need to fill the gap with a bit of foam or similar to stop the battery moving about.

I DIDN'T buy this one. This is ONLY 600mAh.
At the time (6-8 weeks ago) these were £9.99 as were the "correct" ones for my 4G model.
The "4G" battery was advertised as HI-CAP. This was because the original 4G battery is ONLY 600mAh also, but Maplin's are 750mAh (and I quote) "This 750mAh battery has 19% higher capacity than the original battery so will give you longer playing times between charges"
So you can see why I didn't buy the 3G battery listed above - especially since they were both £9.99

    HOWEVER - there is a HI-CAP 3G battery !!!!
This was also £9.99 at that time. (£19.99 now)
Exactly the same physical size (obviously) as the "normal" 3G that is now only £6.98 BUT with a capacity of 850mAh.

850mAh is a tad more than 41% greater than the standard 600mAh

So, since it would obviously physically fit being smaller, had exactly the same connector, I bought the 3G Hi-Cap 850mAh instead of the 4G 750mAh and got a "free" 100mAh for the same price of £9.99

how can you tell what ipod youve got ?

its a black nano ive got
  • A nano is 5G. Apparently the batteries are soldered in on the nanos so I wouldn't recommend replacing it yourself, especially if your soldering skills are anything like mine!
