I live in the flight path of Bournemouth airport - I have been told that since we live in the flight path and are disrupted by the noise that we may be eligable for a reducation in our council tax and / or a refund for previous council tax paid. Anyone know if this might be true? Thanks.

The only way you would get a reduction is if the property was re-banded by the Valuation Offfice otherwise there is no reduction the local authority can apply.
You need to speak to the valuation office (www.voa.gov.uk) for any queries regarding banding as the banding is completely outside the control of the local authority.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
As the airport has been open for many, many years it is quite possible that the CT band has already been investigated. CT bands are based on 1991 property values so it would depend on how these were affected by the airport activity. From experience of an airport with more probably flights than Bournemouth (I'm ex VOA) this did not seem to have much impact on local house prices. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
