Can The Agencys Trace Me?

I moved away from my home 3 years ago....my name is Peter Smith...if I don't link my new address with my old can I be traced back just via my name and DOB...or are there too many Peter Smiths in the UK for this to be viable?

Thanks!

Thanks for the link, I guess that with no previous or linked address it's tough to trace someone. I just wondered if Experian et al could do it based on name and DOB only.

If you have no bank account, no job, no benefits claims and haven't had to fill any form in giving your previous address etc and you're living "off the grid" so to speak, then no, you probably couldn't be traced - depending on who was looking to trace you!

The above circumstances wouldn't be normal though, so I'd be pretty certain a company looking to find you would find you under normal circumstances.

They could find you again, if you opened another bank account, took out credit or registered on the electoral roll.

Don't be surprised if they find you after a few years, happens quite a lot.

Exactly, to get credit you need to be on electoral role ideally, but to be on electoral role they always ask for previous address etc so you'll get a bit stuck then!

Thanks people, well actually I have been registered on the Electoral role and have a new job, both I think you agree are lines of tracing someone, though the electoral role doesn't link back to my previous address and as I have a common name maybe that is partly why nobody has knocked at my door.

The previous lending was unsecured so they have no NI number to trace, so that I am working also means its a dead end for the collection agencies.

At this time in the Uk they are also pretty much snowed under with work as the national public debt spirals out of control....and 3 years down the road...even the letters to the original address which are now forwarded onto a mail box address are drying up.

I think I should be fine, I'm not looking to open a new line of credit, just get credit checked for a new position of employment, they just want my last 3 years to confirm there are no CCJ's, was just concerned how clever vetting agencies might be putting a name and DOB together and tracing it to another part of the UK.

I guess when as per USA, they ask for your NI number in conjunction with unsecured lending then it will be easier to catch an absconder, in the mean time....
