sheep milk?

Options
Hi,
dunno if this would be the most likely board to know about this...? I would like to make sheep's milk yogurt. My son likes it (he likes goats yogurt too but I find it a bit goaty/ savoury), and we both have a big mucus problem (if TMI, sorry!). Its easy to buy sheep yogurt but its £2 a pot so I was hoping do it cheaper. Anyone know anything about this?
Cheers

There was an article in the mail I think, about untreated cows milk being better for all sorts of health probs. It is apparently the fact it is treated that makes it a problem for so many, and 'raw' milk would be beneficial in people with allergies, respiratory complaints and so on.
Gave my ds1 goat milk for 2 months 3 yrs ago to help with his eczema - it really helped but he smelled like a goat!
Can you not use soya milk? I have made yoghurt with soya milk in the past and it was fine.

  • I quite like sheep milk yogurt, though, and not so keen on soya milk. It is common elsewhere. My mum's family is Greek Cypriot and a lot of the yogurt is part or all sheep (goat being the remaining part). Her brothers have mucus problems too so I wondered if we might not be best suited to cow milk. Where would you get untreated cow milk from anyway?
I did find somewhere that will sell sheep milk at £1.30 a pint, free delivery if I buy £40 worth (Naturemade in Devon). Its a lot of milk (they do other stuff so could use that to bulk order) and only saves us approx 60p a pot... Unsure as yet.
That is funny about your son smelling like a goat! Does he drink normal milk now?

He does drink cows milk again, he wouldnt drink goat milk anymore after his eczema improved. If I could get raw milk I would certainly try it.

    He smelt VERY goaty

I think sheep milk may be available but from the freezer at £1.49 (!) a pint at the shop I tried (but out of stock)... In case anyone interested. I'll be looking in the freezers of the shops I tried before, but at £1.49 still very pricey.
Thanks for the link, looks interesting. Does go on a bit though...
