Credit Expert & Outstanding Debt
Options
Will a report from Credit Expert show up any outstanding debt?
An ex ran up some debts in my name, I thought I had sorted them all out but got a letter last week saying I owed money from around six years ago.
I got a report from Credit Expert today and it showed no debts outstanding.
Should I tell this collection company to whistle?

Hi
You would need to check all 3 credit reference agencies experian (who run credit expert), equifax and callcredit.
If the debts don't appear on any of those then its likely that they have dropped off your credit file as the last entry was over 6years ago.
It could be that this debt is statute barred. This means that if you have made no payments for over 6years, or written to acknowledge the debt in the same time, and there is no CCJ then you would not need to pay as the debt would be statute barred.
It is possible that you could still owe the money even if it doesn't appear on your credit file (eg if the creditor defaulted you 6.5years ago, and you then made any payments towards the debt, even if it was 5.5years ago then you would still be liable to pay the debt)A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
