Antique Engagement Ring Advice

I'm looking to find a 20's/30's Art Deco ring. Can anyone suggest stockists of Art Deco jewellery in the North West area (I'm in Manchester)? Also I'm curious to know if antique rings gain value in the long term???
Many thanks

My engagement is a 1930's ring (not especially art deco but right period) We found the ring in an antiques centre in york, the kind that sells all sorts of vintage/antique things from jewellery to vases to clothes to militaria! I don't know manchester so I'm afraid i can't advise you on whether or not there is any in manchester...
As to value, unless they are a well know make (eg Tiffany) i don't think they particuarly increase in value. My ring is 18ct white gold and 0.6ct solitaire and was considerably cheaper then a modern equivalent (although this was not the reason for choosing it, I wanted a vintage piece :) )
    hope that helps

Jewellery of any kind can increase in value - my mum's own engagement ring was purchased by my dad from a pawn shop for about £200 back in 1960, at the last valuation it was £4000. I guess it depends on the cut, colour and clarity of the diamonds (if you have diamonds that is).

Not sure of shops myself in Manchester - only know shops in Birmingham such as Rex Johnsons and Piccadilly Jewellers in Piccadilly Arcade, Bham...as these both sell antique jewellery as well as modern pieces.
  • Many thanks. I've just taken a look at the Antiques Centre's website. It looks like a treasure trove!

years ago there was a little place downstairs in the Royal Exchange in Manchester, he had beautiful antique stuff (I actually wanted a vintage Cartier watch from him instead of an engagement ring first time round but ex hubby was having none of it :D )

I don't know of anywhere else off hand and I'm not sure if he will still even be there (so i'm not being very helpful really haha! sorry! just wanted to post as I would love a ring the same style so let me know if you find anywhere :) )
  • Thanks little h. I've looked around the royal exchange arcade. There is one shop Jenny Jones which stocks vintage and antique rings there. Has anyone ever checked out Harrogate Antique Market?
