Does Student ex have to pay CSA even though he works a full time placement at Uni?

Options
My ex is at university training to be a nurse, and as im aware, that invloves working full time in a placement, which would be a hospital or some such, and he will get paid for this, Im assuming.
We are not on speaking terms so he would never tell me what he works, gets paid etc.
IF he is working full time, but ALSO a student too, does he have to pay CSA for this money he earns?
Thanks in advance
:)

  • Hi
I'm a student nurse too. He does not get paid for placements whether in a hospital or care home. Placements are just a period of time (usually 8 weeks) spent "working" in a care setting rather than being in University and doing theory. He'll probably just get his bursary the same as when he's in uni.
    Best,
Oh, don't let's ask for the moon. We've already got the stars.

I second that - my sister has just qualified and did not get paid. Same for teachers on placement!!
  • Hi. my mums in her third year at uni doing nursing. If he is doing bank-work to get extra money, he get paid for it. You also get funding depending on things. i woulde contact the CSA as he will probley pay about £5 then when he qualified, he will then pay £51 a week depending on his money and if he has other children with a new partner. Tell him, to try and come to a personal agreement. Just say you dont want to get CSA cause he will pay £51 where as if you come to a personal arrangement, offer him £31 a week. Its up to you. x

If he is on placement, I very much doubt he will be doing any bank work - can you do bank work if you are not yet qualified???

Student nurses can do bank work as unqualified healthcare assistants, I think. My daughter (who always wanted to teach, but has now changed her mind after becoming a healthcare assistant, so now wants to become a nurse), was told that when she goes to university, she will be able to join the bank of staff as an unqualified nursing assistant, doing similar to what she does now. This includes accompanying district nurses into people's homes in the evenings, so it can fit in with studying quite well at times, although probably not when on placement.

Thats excellent advice guys thanks. He did tell me that he finishes his course in September; do courses usually finish in september? Or would it be June/July, then the summer holidays?
I offered a private arrangement when my son was smaller but he declined, and I would rather use the csa as he no interest in my son (or the daughter he has with someone else) , and even offered him up for adoption, so I do not think paying is top of his priority.
Anyway, that is great advice thanks. Does anyone know any info re the September finishing? Thanks
    :)

Why don't you just register with CSA if he has no interest in providing for the child - but make sure that you request a reassessment every couple of years as then it will be reassessed when he's qualified and actually earning a living that he can then help provide for his son with.
