Best way to sell gold

Options
Ok i hope i have posted this in the right place sorry if i haven't.

I have 7 rings that have sat in my jewelry box for the last 4 yrs most were gifts from my ex husband. I'm hopeing i can make a few quid out of them its better than them collecting dust and never seeing the light of day.

They are mainly white gold 4 are 9ct and two are 18ct and i have an 18ct yellow gold ring.

Now obviuosley i wont get the best deal form the tv advertisers so im going to hit the town later with them.

Who can you recommend who to take them too and would i be best removing the stones as most have diamonds in, 1 being a single 1/4 ct stone or would it be a waste of time and im best to leave them ?

Thank you for your help :-)

I would try any high street pawnbroker although I was in one the other day & a poor girl had an 18ct white gold ring which they offered £50 for - she paid £590 a year ago

Cash Generator 'say' they will beat any price so might be worth checking out one of them if thers one near you

You've reimnded me to dig out the earrings and bits I need to sell - thanks hun

A pawnbroker will offer less than one of these 'we buy your gold' places - go specifically to one of these.

If it helps at all I sold some about 6 weeks ago and was given £6.50 per gram.

    Hi

I sold my gold through Hatton Garden Metals but apparently Gerrards value them a little higher.

On reflection I should have gone down to get them valued at Gerrards.

I sent Hatton Garden Metals about 65 grams of 20carat gold and they gave me about £1200.

OP - if you are happy to send off google lois-jewellery (dot com) - they seem to be quoting £8.85 per gram for 9ct.

If you have any small local 2nd hand jewellers may be worth popping in these. They are more likely to give a price based on the entire item (gold and stones) rather than the gold buyers who just want the gold to melt down and don't care about the stones

Whatever you do, don't use money4gold! The only other one I have experience of is Hatton garden metals and they are reliable, they paid approx 80% of the value (just for the gold.) They do have a calculator on their website which would give you a rough idea so you could compare with the high street.

Well i went up the high street and took into a jewelers i got £300 for the lot which seemed pretty good. I've just checked against hatton garden and they would have offered me an extra £10 but i would have had to posted it off and waited so i dont think i did to bad.

Thank you all for your suggestions :-)

  • I've sold a fair bit of gold over the years and there are 3 companies who are good. HGM in London, Lois in Birmingham and the Manchester Gold Company in Manchester. The first two are postal gold but the latter only deals in the North-West. Quite frankly I would never post gold but you can go to any of the three depending on what area you live in
