12000 BTU split air con unit, self install £299

Wickes have split air con units on sale (one unit inside and one outside with pipes inbetween).

The boxes are badged Wickes and have a 2 year guarantee.

Included is also the core drill bit needed to make the hole through the wall.

Can be fitted by DIY as the unit is pre-gassed.

I have just picked one up ready for next summer.

£299 reduced from £499.

Wall brackets for the outside unit are £14 if required.

If anyone wants any pictures, PM me.

In my local diy shed,Aki,ok it,s in Fuengirola Malaga Spain,a equivalent to the Wickes air conditioner, a split air-con unit priced.......wait for it.......99 euros, that's about 68 pounds.....and a higher output model 149 euros.....all guaranteed 2 years..............they had around 50 of each on display.....even the big Carrefour supermarkets only charge around 169 euros......still,in the uk someone has to pay for all those illegals...................

How are people getting on with these Wickes units? Are they quiet?

A very important thing to consider, both for you and the planet, is the energy rating of them. Anyone know what this is?
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.
  • You can get cheaper and probably better kits, Northstar Aircon in Derby do good kits, I bought a 18000btu kit last year and its superb, that cost me £300 last June and I believe the smaller 12000 kit was £225. Superb split kits with full instructions and dead easy to work. Highly recommended.

OK, but what is its energy rating? B&Qs' go from A to D I think.

  • The wickes one is rated D (and looking at the design of the units is also made by airforce) - I am willing to put up with the rating as I will only every use it for a few days in the year.

Some info. here from an independent supplier comparing their offerings with the B&Q airforce a/c's:

I've fitted mine now and its remarkably quiet both inside and out.
D rated energy, but again I'll only use it during the peak summer nights.

I agree with a previous poster - aircons are a bit of a ripoff in the UK. They can be had for less than 200 euros on the continent.
