I've used the budget planner tool on this site, and it came back positive. We have about £1200 a year leftover after all outgoings.

Its surprising how much these things cost. Honestly, I'm all about saving money where I can and this site has helped me alot. Although I can buy the bathroom suite, tiles, taps etc for probably £1000, its the labour that costs the most.

Same with the kitchen. I've got my desgin and researching loads of different companies to see who can give me the cheapest quote. I've budgeted £4000, including labour.

As for the car, it will cost upto £2000, with the other £1000 for insurance, MOT and tax.

And the fireplace, I would happily buy a second hand one, but it needs to be fitted into a wall from scratch, ie theres no fireplace there at the mo. SO the wall will have to be broken into, whcih is quite a big job.

Really should not be getting a loan to cover Tax/Mot etc. We are desperate for a new kitchen and bathroom. Although our debt is considerably more than yours, our joint income is too. Infact we are only using 20% of our available credit. Our disposable income each month is £1400(after every outgoing inc 2k debt repayment, and 1.2k mortgage) but we are/have learnt debt is bad. We will have to make do and mend. I got some vinyl for the bathroom floor and it cost £70, and it will do. The kitchen is depressing, but no where near as depressing as the years it will take to repay.

Blimey, I'd be worried if I only had £1200 a month leftover.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

What about next years MOT/Tax and insurance?? take out another loan??

My mum and dad just bought a decent enough car for 700 pound and got a kitchen off the neighbours when they were upgrading there one, they can not afford flash things, so are happy with what they have, i suggest you should be also as you can not afford it either.

To be left with so little is not healthy. When you press that big red button and it says congratulations, does not mean alls well. Like I have said, I need a new kitchen, etc etc, but what we need and what we get sometimes is not possible. You simply cannot afford it.

We both have steady incomes, albeit not a huge amount. £1200 is whats left over after paying for ALL outgoings, including bills, shopping, mortgage, going out, peoples birthdays, etc etc, everything.

If you all know of any cheap kitchen and bathroom companies, please let me know. The less I spend, the better.

Does it include, the car needing new tyres, your hairdryer blowing up, a wedding you get invited too, a window getting smashed, your drains getting blocked, your hot water packing in over xmas. You will be so maxed out, that getting just 1 or 2 nasty surprises will send you under. How are you paying next tears tax/mot/insurance,it will soon come around.

if you have 1,200 spare each year after all bills expenses etc, why are you in 3,500 debt?
what do you currently do with the spare 100 each month?
