don't forget the greed of the trade unions which thatcher busted, although they've had a renaissance under labour with the absurd public pay packages.

one form of greed replaced another.

what about saviour nick? after all he's the son of a wealthy banker and has an identical background to Cameron...

blair must have a few pals in banking given he works for one now. i dare say gordon does too.

all the parties will be receptive to big business/big banks. that's just the way things are. another that thinks that one of the main parties is an exception is kidding themselves.
What are these absurd public pay packages you are referring to?

In 28 years I have only had one pay rise above the rate of inflation (0.2% above). Every other year I have received less. This year it was 0.5%.

I understand that sometimes we read in the press that this or that civil servant has got a ridiculous pay package, but please don't take that to mean that all public sector workers are on fantastic wages. There are plenty of people who work in the public sector and still receive benefits because their pay is so low.

Oh, and when did capital letters go out of fashion around your way?
  • it depends how good your union/prof. organisation is i suppose at negotiating with the idiots in central government.

the package for the medical profession was a joke - work fewer hours, have fewer callouts, get a massive above inflation pay increase.

just look at the recent strike over redundancy pay - that group of workers still get TWO YEARS redundancy pay - crazy.

look at the recent article about birmingham city council - they were paying bonuses to their staff that meant bin man could earn £50k/year with overtime. just absurd and unsustainable, not to mention the salaries and benefits of local authority management.

I think Cameron and Clegg need to be careful on the bigot woman episode.

They've already got their cheap shots in via press releases today and I think some things have their own motion, like this bigot woman issue, which doesn't need any further propulsion from the party leaders.

Tonight is about the economy, so would rather they keep on topic and I'm sure there will be enough blood shed on that topic alone.

    Totally agree.

George Osbourne actually got it right(!) yesterday when he simply said - 'those comments speak for themeselves'. Trying to make too much capital out of this (huge) gaffe could backfire.

Besides, the (significant) damage is already done and I personally think Labour will now do well to avoid 3rd place in the popular vote.
Go round the green binbags. Turn right at the mouldy George Elliot, forward, forward, and turn left....at the dead badger

I am in Unison, the biggest union in the UK, and i work at a University.

I agree that the binmen in question were on ridiculous wages (though the figure I read was £32K with overtime). The vast majority of public sector workers are on far less, so let's not pretend they are representative. Again local authority managers are in the minority. Talk of 25% pay cuts across the board as suggest by The White Horse yesterday is absurd.

Cameron was SO rehearsed and false in his statement at the end. Clegg and Brown were far more natural, though Brown's smile is hideous.:D

Of the three, Cameron was the strongest.

Clegg was somewhat faltering at times, especially on issues such as immigration.

Brown was the weakest – he just repeated what he always says. Talk and no action, as has been proved many times in the past, from a man who was a major contributor to wrecking this country, not the least the economy. Hideous, hypocritical, lying megalomaniac – he looks and behaves as though he should be in a mental institution.

To those who think labour in any way represents the 'ordinary' person, I would suggest you go and take a look at Bliar's large house off Hyde Park. (It's the one with police wasting time standing outside the front and back.) That man has more in material terms than many Tories, and I bet has many bankers, 'honourable' labour peers, etc, as his friends. Oh – and his expenses records were conveniently lost, a sure sign that he'd obtained money dishonestly from taxpayers. Members of the British public who still intend to vote for labour, and think that it represents them, must be blinkered indeed.

Oh god, isn't it, wasn't it. I thought he did alright at the end, then he gave that horrible false smile, I groaned and had to turn away from the tv.

Did anyone see the Sky News experiment today where they had 14 floating voters, 7 of them watched the debate and 7 of them listened to it. All took notes through out the debate.

The 7 that watched preferred Clegg and Cameron with Brown 3rd

The 7 that listened preferred Brown then Clegg with Cameron nowhere.
