Numb lip

Yesterday morning I had toothache:(, and got an appointment with the dentist for the afternoon. At lunchtime I still had the pain but my lip & chin but it had started to go numb:(.
I went to the dentist in the afternoon (made her aware of the numbness), she gave me an injection and a root canal. She said the numbness would where of but it may take a while.
Any how its the following day and my lip & chin on that side of my face is still numb.:( It's a horrid sensation, I just expect everytime I drink for it to dribble out the side of my mouth (so far it hasn't though).
I'm guessing that the bad tooth had put pressure on the nerve to cause it but how long does it take to go away?
Has anyone else had this?
Is there anything I can do to easy it?

GO TO THE DOCTOR NOW.
I have had recurrent bells palsy, the initial one caused by pressure from an ear infection, and a weak neurological system anyway, and the one think they impressed was the need for speed in treatment for this, so i imagine other nerves are similar. i'd call your GP surgery, tell the receptionist what the problem is so that they know its urgent that you see/speak to a doctor, or go elsewhere.
mse does not allow medical advice so all anyone can say is go to the doctor!0 -
I wouldnt go to your doc I would go to your dentist again who can best advise you. If it started before the toothache sometimes infection can cause numbness. Bells palsy affects movement not sensation so it doesnt sound like that. The nerve supply are very different. Your dentist who did the work would have x rays and a history of you to go on. A doctor wouldnt have that and they also are not that well experienced in matters of the mouth0

Drs are rubbish with mouth things!
If you're concerned, then contact the dentist again.
But you HAVE had professional advice on this - "It will take a while".
I would have thought "a while" would mean a few days in this instance, not 24h. But I would clarify that with the dentist (A phone call should do it) before panicing! How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

Dentist has come back and said its nothing to worry about but it may take a week to go. If it hasn't sorted itself by then to go and see her.
Thanks for the support.0
