Over here brides tend to enter competitions to win their wedding and their wedding is then provided by various companies who have links with the wedding mag that promoted the competition. It would only be viable in the UK if a massive company could sponsor a wedding because weddings cost money and businesses cannot afford to give their time for free.

I am aware of one wedding which was a bit farcical to say the least where a local free magazine decided that they were going to put on a wedding fair and then ran a competition amongst the local villages to find a girl willing to get married, the thing was that she had to get married at the same time the wedding fair was on at the venue where the fair was being held. This happened to be my first wedding fair and as a result it was also my last wedding fair as I will not be exhibiting at one again.

The other way we do things in the UK is to sometimes hold an auction to raise money for charity and then people may offer goods or services which are to be bid upon.

I have heard of this! I was suprised to say the least. I don't know that I'd want to do it though as balloons with the companies name on wouldn't be factored in on my 'perfect' day. However, if it suits you and you know a business willing, I say go for it! :D

I've heard of people getting discounts for swapping favours, eg, getting a new wedding photographer to do pics for free / cheap, then allowing them to use your photos on their profile to set up their portfolio.
Likewise with dressmakers trying to get publicity shots etc.
