Hi Sammy - I am a Cumbria bride 2 be from Whitehaven but we are getting married abroad. In true MSE style I got my Maggie Sottero dress in a 'last season' sale for a quarter of the price and I'm pretty darned chuffed with myself about it :D

    Hello

I'm also a Cumbrian bride, sort of!

Getting married in Lancaster but having my wedding reception at the Castle Green Hotel in Kendal. There are some gorgous locations in the Lakes, really loved Langdale Chase but couldn't justify the cost. :)
    I :heart2: saving money

Hi Sammy & QueenB - I'm getting hitched in St Lucia -on the surface not very MSE - but my thinking is this one time only we get to have a fab chillout hol (minus the offspring - there are normally 2 of mine and 2 of his in tow - all teens - shriek!)for the cash we would be paying for a day-do here for both our clans. So - no bridesmaid /groomsmen outfits, no cars, no favours, no day venue or food, & wedding cake/flowers/reception for 2 incuded in free wedding with holiday. Evening do when we return though for all so still needing certain weddingy things.

You're South Lakes end so I think most of my knowledge is unhelpful, but I'm doing my own invites/decorations and a lot of shopping on the net for bridey things. I can't bear to pay full price for anything if I can trawl for a bargain so we can prob get some interweb info off each other if nothing else. Congrats you both btw - and kudos to you Sammy for the fabulous dress find!!! Got any pics?

    Hiya

Im finding alot of things, cars etc are up towards kendal and carlisle. Not much down here in South Lakes. My photographer is coming from Manchester! :-)

My dress isnt a new design, but i fell in love with it because of the size of its train, 12ft!! I wanted Pricess Di length (25ft) but thought that may be a little OTT.

This is my dress. Most pics are of the last bride wearing it. Im having the back altered to lace up, but thats about it. Its almost perfect.

Got any pics of your dress?

Oooh! Thats lovely - that train will look spectacular on the aisle! Ive just been on the Dress pic thread and Bride2B24 kindly posted a pic of my dress there - I can't yet, being a newbie. Its Maggie Sottero Jayden if you want to google it, or look there. Are you wearing a veil with it or not? And btw what sort of car do you fancy? Limo? Vintage? Trotters van? :D

    Your dress is stunning. :-)

Im wearing a veil, cathedral length. Over face when walking down the aisle.

Im unsure what kind of car i want exactly, but it definately has to be a 1930's era thing. Ive been having a snoop about online :-) Thinking of just hiring a posh taxi for my bridemaids & mother rather than two bridal cars.

Had a quick scout for Cumbrian vintage cars and found 'Cars of Distinction' Penrith who do all Cumbria they say and have a gorge array of 30's Bentleys and Rolls's. 'Cumbria Classic Coaches' cover whole country and have a 1936 Rover and a 1937 London Taxi. (you have to email for quotes - no prices on sites) Ive also found a site called weddingsnorthwest.co.uk that have lots of Barrow suppliers for cars and all sorts. Here's a thought - if you have the bottle? I read in a wedding mag one girl had approached people at a classic car show and one had agreed to drive her for virtually petrol money! 20th June 2010 - Hutton in the Forest "Cumbrian Historic Vehicle Show" I'm too chicken but..........
