When my OH moved into my house (mortgage is and always will be in my name only and paid by me) the solicitor that did the house legal stuff drew up a document stating that the house is my asset and that he would have no claim over it in the event that we split up. He signed it willingly. I've chucked him out once but he came back and 7 years on he's still here and the house is still mine!
He contributes towards food and bills.

  • Just out of interest as I'm in the same position. I contribute £200 towards the bills/mortgage and buy all of the food/cleaning stuff/toiletries which usually totals around £120-ish (since MSE), I also buy all the little things like bedding, curtains, cushions, kitchen equipment and do all of the housework, so where would I stand? It's Mr LMLOD's property.

Sorry to hijack your thread but have always wondered..........
Its nice to be important but more important to be nice!

having been in the situation i can tell you exactly what happens - if your name isnt on the mortgage you have no claim.

I lived with my ex partner for 4 years, paid £400 a month towards bills, please bear in mind that the mortgage was only £237, and when he decided he didnt want to play happy families anymore i got nothing....

Even though we had a child together he claimed it was rent, and he only owned the house for a month before i moved in and started paying his mortgage. And yes im sore about it !! ( but anyone would be with 19k down the drain ! )
