Has anyone done DIY sashes?

My current wedding package (which i am still trying to negotiate - but thats for another thread) includes chair covers, but not sashes... so I've come up with the idea that my dear sister will be in charge of "doing up" the 50 sashes, if I buy them.
I am planning to buy them online (organza) and they work out to be about £1 each, and then get my sis to tie them on the morning.
Has anyone ever tried doing their own? Is it hard?
The wedding venue said that they "strongly recommended " getting professionals to do it as "there is a real knack to tying bows". But wanting to be MSE... I want to do our own - and maybe even give them away afterwards!
P.S If anyone had "sage green" sashes and wants to sell them to me - I am more than interested!

I think the best thing to do is practise! Get one and just keep tieing it til your confident. You can do different ties so rather than bows if that helps.

Personally I agree with the venue.
Is your sister artistic and could with making things look pretty and neat?
It's like tieing a wide ribbon round a present, easy to do in theory but to make it actually look nice and stay inplace it's another story0 -
Ooo yes, there is a knack to bow tying. You literally need to 'dress' them. I'd have a practice. Have a look at you tube to see if there is anyone who can demonstrate. 50 is a lot of bows to tie!!0

Also think about how long its going to take her to tie 50 bows! Will she have time? remember she needs time to get ready aswell. It would take her hours on her own!
Are your chairs really ugly?
I'm not having any covers at all cos my chairs all match. What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0
