we're not far from Silverstone OH and DD left home at 8.30 and arrived at 9 they said there wasn't any traffic. They had a fabulous day while I was at work watched a few hours of racing and went on most of the attractions. There was a bit of traffic when they left about 5.30. They'd decided to leave but stopped off to get doughnuts at which point it started to rain a bit so lots of people decided it was time to go too. It didn't take them much longer to get home though. DD2 looks absolutely exhaused but looking forward to going again tomorrow with me. Hope evryone enjoyed it as much as OH and DD2.0

Really enjoyed the experience of actually going to Silverstone for the first time despite the 3 hour trip to get there from Norfolk, apart from the racing which was good to watch there was lots to do and see and although the food was pricey it was really good quality, great day out.0

It was fab. Never been to Silverstone before and throughly enjoyed it . Got there early - bout 8am and parking was easy peasy. Left at 5pm to avoid being stuck in traffic and found it easy to get out too.
Loads to do. Defo get in queue early for the pit walk just for the experience and because it is soooo popular. Also try to get a seat in the grandstand for at least the F1 because he does the doughnuts there. We were also just behind the fence where Daniel Ricciardo crashed - it was scary! If you want to do any of the simulators head to the village quickly
Hope you all have a good day0 -
I'm going tomorrow, anybody who went today, what is parking like? Is it expensive?0

Went today. Great day out and parking was free
It was my first trip to Silverstone and its quite a shock after seeing on th TV other F1 circuits in the middle east and around the world. To drive out of the official car park, we were directed through a hole in the fence, over cattle grids, through a field of cows and finally out onto a country lane. I can't imagine the chaos there must be on F1 days?0 -
Did anyone else have programmed in to record todays Silverstone events?
We did, but they seem to have removed it from the schedule.
Tomorrows one is still in the Sky Planner, but todays one vanished in the hour before it was due to start recording at 9:20pm.
Anyone else notice this.... or is my Box on the blink?
Thanks.** Freebies and money saved with the help of you all? - Don't know ....lost count! **** Stay Safe **0 -
I think my Box IS on the blink, you know!
I have just gone back into the planner... and there it is, as large as life!
But it wasn't there earlier, all 4 of us saw it was missing!
Oh dear, more money to be spent now on a new Sky+ box <<sigh>>** Freebies and money saved with the help of you all? - Don't know ....lost count! **** Stay Safe **0 -
Guess what?
My recording has failed!
My machine is at deaths door!
If any one knows if they are going to reshow it (it was on eurosport) can they let me know please.
Hubby quite disappointed the recording failed.** Freebies and money saved with the help of you all? - Don't know ....lost count! **** Stay Safe **0 -
I think you can probably find the race on Eurosports website. They have a whole video section on it.
I managed to successfully record the F3.5 race on Saturday (the one with the crash at the start).
We only went on Saturday but thoroughly enjoyed it.
Yes, there were traffic issues, but nothing that I'd call major. Took us just over an hour in total to get there compared to 30 mins to get home.
Best bit was definitely the flexibility to go wherever you wanted.
Watched the 3.5 race from Copse, the F2 race from near the bridge and then the start of the Megane race from the main grandstand.
Should have stayed at Copse for that one to see Caroline Grifnee's miraculous escape from the crash - 5 flips and nothing left but the frame.
Plenty to keep the kids entertained, though the fair only cosisted of 2 rides and a couple of bouncy castles. The queue for the carousel was ridiculous! My 2 were bored early on, having to stay in one place, but thoroughly enjoyed wandering round the paddock etc. When we left at 3.45 they were complaining that they wanted to stay!
Had forgotten how loud an F1 car is - so I can only imagine what it's like in the grandstand at the start of the British GP.0 -
OH & I went both days with two friends - stayed at Daventry overnight after Premier Inn booking at Silverstone was scuppered by the fire. We all had a great time, got there early both days (07.30!!) no traffic problem at all of course at that time, but we were glad we did as we got to see lots of stuff with no crowds and the two girlies (me and friend) got a go easily on the carousel.
Displays and demos fab, and the racing was something else! Steve sweet-talked a security guard into letting us walk the pits used for the F1 races. The weather was much better than forecast, and we had a picnic lunch sat on rugs in glorious sunshine by the car on the Saturday.
I am already looking forward to going again next year. It was a real experience to see Silverstone (though like others, we could not believe the windy buck-shee track to the field for parking given it is such a major circuit. If it had rained in any quantity, there would have been a quagmire.)A chicken crossing the road is poultry in motion0
