Divorced and moved out but still on the mortgage

Options
I split up with my ex about 2 years ago, i left her living in the house with my 3 children but am still on the deeds and mortgage. I want to get off the mortgage and will then come off the deeds but am unsure what options are open to me. The main problem is she is a stay at home mum. I'm guessing there are little to no easy ways out of this but thought i'd ask in just in case.

She need to take over the mortgage in her own name. This is up to the lender as they may not release you if she has insufficient income.

She has to have enough income of her own to take over the mortgage. She needs to speak to the Bank/Building Society, as they may not agree to it. At present they will come to you if the mortgage isn't paid.
  • Ok thanks, that's pretty much what i thought. No idea what to do as she doesnt have any income other than from me and benefits at the moment.

Was this part of the divorce settlement?
  • We didn't have any financial stuff associated with the divorce. I agreed to leave her it.

When my ex husband got taken off our joint mortgage, I had to reapply for the same mortgage in my name but as a new mortgage and the same with the deeds of the house and any endownments. But all this was agreed through our solicitors. Good luck
