Miso soup

It sounds delicious, thank you for posting this recipe!
May I add that if you like miso (and want to do it more OS), it is much more economical to buy a tub of miso and mix a teaspoon of the stuff in a bowl with some of the soup broth - do not mix in the pan while boiling because it kills all the good enzymes in the miso! - and then mix into the rest of the soup once it is off the cooker. Edited to say: if you really want to go Japanese you can also add a little piece of Kombu seaweed (available, like Miso, even in Sainsburys these days!) and cook it into the soup then chop it and eat in the soup, it is high in iodine and calcium and apparently it is a real superfood!
You are right, it is much cheaper to buy a tub of miso than those miso sachets so much better of you plan on making this a regular meal.
God I love miso soup, haven't had any in ages. Just the thought of Yo Sushi's miso makes my mouth water (Shall have to pop to a neighbouring town this week and buy miso!).The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Hi lilian,
Now that you have the recipe I've added your thread to the main thread on miso soup to keep the recipes together.

sorry to bump up such an old thread but I searched for bonito flakes and this is what came up
My daughter has been experimenting with cooking Chinese food for a while now and has decided to move on to her first love of Japanese food (which she pays a fortune for when she eats out )
We have a couple of asian supermarkets near to where we live but strangely neither of them stock bonito flakes. Does anyone know where they can be bought reasonably cheaply in the Durham area (or online if the delivery charges don't make it uneconomical)0
