We've got your money

I recently swapped my two energy companies to a new one, using 'simplyswitch' as advised by 'moneysavingexpert'. However, the two old companies have still been taking the direct debits from my account. The old accounts are well in credit and despite reminders they still take the money and not in a hurry to reinburse me.
How many of you out there have this same problem? If this is a strategy of the energy companies they must be holding a lot of our money.

  • It's not a strategy, it's a mistake.

And your compounding the mistake by not taking hold of your finances and cancelling direct debits that are no longer required!

Have you had a final bill yet from your old supplier?

The supplier might continue to take the monthly DD until they produce that final bill and will them bill/refund you any difference. Do not cancel the DD mandate until the supplier says it has collected the last payment (and that should cancel the DD anyway) else you may lose your right to any discount for paying by DD.
