TV and Film extra work?

Hello, I don't know if anybody could help me but I am trying to find out how to go about finding TV and Film extra work? I have been trying to find out about agencies through the internet, but I can't be sure that many of them are genuine,ie. lots of them appear to be asking for money to join and that isn't right surely?Does anybody know of any bona fide agencies out there who deal with people applying to be extras? I would be really grateful for any advice or information:)

Lots of scam companies - you can pay out thousands for photographic albums and such like on the promise of work. Very few will actually get any work at all.
