Problems with McVities Dunk or Not promotion - any advice?

Was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on the Dunk or Not Promotion?

On Monday I received an email saying that they could not award my prize of an ebook reader as I hadn't claimed within 28 days. I checked my receipts from the post office, and the claim had been delivered to them on 30/03/2010 at 9.32am. I called their helpline, and told them what was happening and the lady said she'd get onto handling house via email to find out what was going on, and provided them with the Tracking number etc.

I've just had a call back from the lady who I spoke to on Monday, and apparently Handling House has sent me the email in error and they did receive my claim, but I still wont be getting it as its invalid because I sent the wrong wrapper in!!

I know I didn't because I wrote the numbers down when I used them and marked it as a win on my "comping notepad" so I knew which wrapper code I'd used. I double checked the wrapper codes too before I sent them. Handling House won't tell me what codes I should have sent in either so how am I supposed to know if I have definately sent the right code in and to check that my sanity is still in one piece?

Shall I just give up, or is anyone else having problems with them making excuses for not sending prizes?

If it was definately the right code could you not say that it was the only wrapper you had left in the house because once you have used them they get chucked if they are not winners or put in envelopes with the corresponding email if they are?

Seems thay have had a few problems with claims as they seem to be making a fair few mistakes, keep on at them if you know you sent in the correct one!

I'm sure somone on here said they sent off the wrapper and McVitie's told them what the code should b, they should be able to tell you.

gosh that is pretty poor customer service to be honest. Its a bit tricky as its their word against yours. Maybe ask for your wrappers to be returned or send them a copy of what you have.

Good luck with it and sorry its become such a nightmare.

I agree with savvybunny, if you're 100% sure, you could definitely say that it had to be the right code, cos it's the only wrapper you had at the time or something to that effect.

Sorry to hear your having problems, hopefully you get it sorted. I never received one of my prizes from their last promotion, but I hope you have more luck sorting it than I did x

I'm really annoyed, as I won 2 ebook readers, and had problems with the other claim too, saying that I'd sent the wrong wrapper in when I didn't. Once I called customer services I got a reply saying that my prize would be sent out the next day, which I have received.

I'm starting to see a pattern with it though It seems a bit funny that they said I didn't send my claim within time slot but then they'd received it and it was the wrong wrapper.

I only had 4 packets of choc hobnobs, I won both ebook readers with hobnob packets, 2 packets were sent in first claim as I couldn't remember which one was which, as they were only one digit different on the time code and it was 2am when I entered. The other 2 packets that I had is one I sent away and the one I still have at home. The one I still have was bought with the free biscuit vouchers I'd won which was after the ebook reader, so I did sent the right wrapper, without a doubt

The Lady who was dealing with my query at McVities rang back today and left a message as I couldn't get to the phone as I was giving my son his breakfast

Apparently Handling House have double checked my claim again and have found that it is the right packet and that my claim is valid so I will be getting my prize soon I'm so pleased as I thought I'd have to write this off as one I wouldn't be receiving.... and thanks to Joanne at McVities for helping me sort it out.

Oh and handling house have been warned to be more vigilant in future when checking claims.
