Thermos lid won't budge

Hi, I am not sure what to do as my thermos lid is firmly stuck on. It is a plastic type screw lid and a metal base and I cant seem to budge it. The problem is that the water has gone cold and now there is a vacuum that seems unbreakable. Any ideas on what to do? Thanks very much

Hi everybody,
After a night of trying every trick in the book I had given up only to have my OH get home and turn the lid clockwise then anti closkwise a few times, slightly budge the lid up and bam it came off:):o I'm sure my efforts must have done something towards this lol. Thanks for everyones replies:T
