Timeshare Help Please

Anyone got any advice to help me with a dreaded timeshare.
I have inherited a Timeshare from my mum, it of very little use to me and my family and I want to get rid of it; but don't know how. When I telephone the Timeshare company my mother bought it from (based in the Isle of Mann) they tell me I cannot abandone it, it is like owning your house, you are contractually obliged to carry on paying for the services etc.
Does anyone have with any experience of this, or knows how I could get out of the contract?
It would appear to have very little second-hand value (£300). Anyone got any advice or interested?
