I buy rice in big sacks from ethnic supermarkets - it works out very good value and is usually superior quality to the supermarket value brands.

I swear by sainsbury's basics penne and spaghetti, which is 32p and 39p respectively for 500g. It takes a llittle longer to cook than the other stuff as its a bit thicker, but has great texture and taste, but bearing in mind I otherwise buy De Cecci at about £1.49 for 500g, and all of us are happy eating the basics stuff as an alternative to the best brand,. even if you have tried other own brands do give this a try, for 32p it is a real bargain,. I have tried asda's basic pasta and really not liked it so everyone is different.
