If you don't top up the sim card it will expire after 180 days. If you top up the card with cash (£5 minimum) you'll have to make one chargeable call per month to keep the sim card active, otherwise the credit will expire after 270 days.

In the main post it implies you dont need to top up the sim, do we now have to top it up? Just received 2 free sims this morning and sent the text off and am still waiting for a reply.

Yes, same here, and I'm pretty sure the thread that started me off said that it was possible to text for free after registering the sim. It had links to the T-Mobile site to order the sim etc - but for some reason I can't find it now, strange.

Surely that's why it's called a "loophole", because "This is supposed to be for T-mobile customers only, yet grab a free sim card and ANYONE can do it."

The sim pack I received mentions the 'Night In' deal, "once you've topped up". So now, it's not a "loophole", because if you top-up, you've become a T-Mobile customer, right?

This was a good deal when linked to free texts from a 'spare' sim, not quite so good if a top up is needed and you already have all the contract minutes you need. If I thought I would use the 'night in' regularly, then the £5 top up wouldn't be an issue, but I really just wanted to try it out ... pity.

You definitely need to top-up the SIM unfortunately! It says so in the letter (well, not so much a letter as a page of advertising!) which accompanies the SIM card. So you will need to top-up at least £5 to get the £5 offer. Worth it if you plan to use it a number of occasions and if it will last for a number of weeks but not as good as it first appeared!

Well done, MSE! Yet again, you build my hopes up only for there to be hidden T&Cs

I too got 2 free sim cards sent out to me in the post but as other posters have already said it turns out that you MUST top up the sim before you can send the free text and gain the offer.

Bit of a waste of time if you ask me as unless you do the offer on a weekly basis your saving is very minimal.

Out of all the online DVD rental companies I recommend Blockbuster as the best and keep up the continued service after your trial has expired.

Lovefilm and Tesco DVD - same company but service goes to pot after trial or after you have been a member for a few months.

With Blockbuster I think we pay £11.50 a month 2 disc unlimited and you can get around 6 DVDs a week. You also get a 241 voucher every month to use in store.

I'm currently on a T-Mobile contract and thought I would get charged for the outgoing and/or incoming text message for this offer so I ordered 2 free PAYG T-Mobile sim cards thinking that it would include some credit. Got the SIM cards and realised that there's no credit so quickly put them in the bin.

I then used my contract phone for the offer and checked my online itemised billing. No charge for the outgoing or incoming text. I'm assuming the outgoing text comes out of my free text allowance and the incoming text is free.

Point is, anyone wanting to take advantage of this offer just needs to find a family member or friend who will text it on their behalf. Write down the code on your phone or have that friend forward the text message. The only downside is that only one code can be obtained per week per T-Mobile contract.

I've just come back from Blockbuster and they don't check the text message and just ask that you read it out to them (same as the Orange Wednesday cineworld deal). They may ask if you bring the code on a piece of paper but on your phone they will be fine.

Offer is includes 2 x DVDs or 1 x DVD & 1 Game. Does not include 2 x Game. Game is due back in 7 days and DVD is due back in 2 days. The 2L bottle of drink, sweets and popcorn is Blockbuster branded. I'm sure the sweets and popcorn will be ok but I'm sure the Blockbuster cola will taste like battery acid.

Anyway, good luck to all who take advantage of this as I think it's a cracking deal that can be used by everyone who has a T-Mobile contract or a family/friend who has one.
