i know of a NHS trust where thousands are wasted each day on "initiative lists". these are extra lists of either clinics or operation lists that are run to comply with government targets.yes government targets are there for a reason and need to be met but:
regular theatre lists go half empty and the same consultant could be doing an initiative theatre list the next day for extra money. initiative clinics or theatre lists being done by consultants when the junior doctors are left with the normal workload during "working hours". initiative theatre lists which are paid for the whole day being filled with 2-3 minor cases.
this i am sure could be the situationin a vast majority of the NHS trusts.
poor management or overly poor management is what needs to be changed in the NHS and i am sure every body knows that but b***rall happens on the ground.
if the NHS was a massive private sector organisation then such shotty management would have been shot a log time ago.
