HELP PLEASE!! HSBC Telephone interview for telesales role

My first post!

I have a telephone interview tomorrow for the Telephone Sales position in Leeds

I remember failing this interview 6 months ago (it was my first competancy based interview, been very lucky recently)

The questions will be as follows and I have no idea how to answer them. Any help or tips from anyone has done this interview would be amazing!

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi
I really did not want to read and run so I decided to share my telephone interview I had with Axa in hope that some of it helps you.

First I looked at this website for tipshttp://www.seltekconsultants.co.uk/preparingtelephoneinterview.htm

The asked me about the company. I had looked on there website and wrote down bullet points. Ie the company had won awards, how good they were doing in the UK market. Just talked them up really.

They asked about my strengths and weakness. I just say I had High Exceptions of myself. Turn that weakness into a strength.

They then asked for examples of when I had excelled in customer service. I came from a background of customer service so I just used pointers from that, though I have known friends who have just used life experience.

Im quite surprised how much they ask for on Telephone Interview as most of your questions I got asked on the main interview.

Im not sure if this is helpful to you and I hope someone else has more insight. All I can do is wish you the best of luck.

Do you use telephone banking yourself? If you do then think about good and bad service you've been given. If you don't then call your bank a couple of times today, perhaps enquire about a loan or credit card so you can then give some real world examples in your interview. It's also worth popping into their branches as some have had a refit...again try and get some real world experience of the brand, don't just recite dull statistics from their website or Wikipedia :)

HSBC are very proud of the fact they haven't taken government handouts which gives them more flexibility and independence in running their business, you might get a brownie point for mentioning that. Try and dig up any recent advertising campaigns (either on their website or perhaps on YouTube) as their managers seem to like mentioning them.

If the post is in Leeds then is it for the First Direct division of HSBC? It might be worth reading up on them as well just in case. First Direct have a fantastic customer services record so you might want to mention them anyway.

Thanks for help, the only question I am struggling for now is "Treating Customers Fairly" I have no idea how to answer that or how it will be asked

Well. Not sure how the interview went. He asked ALOT of questions and really asked for all the gritty details. Kept interupting me and breaking my concentration. I hate telephone interviews. Who invented them ey?

Have another telephone interview for HBOS this morning. Fingers crossed this one goes better!

"Treating Customers Fairly" is a specific initiative by the FSA. Googling for the phrase will produce lots of info, eg
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

Well, I failed the interview. Had around 10 telephone interviews in 5 years. Only two I have failed were HSBC.

Happy to say I passed the HBOS interview and am through to the next stage.
