Santander Cowboys - DFS Account

  • I diary the date and phone them every month with my debit card details. They take the payment and give me a reference number. If im feeling flush I can pay a bit extra and then not have to pay at all some month. Either way, I'm in control. One thing to remember - I heard one time years ago that if you have one of their interest-free deals, as I do, you have to pay all the interest if you are ever default in any way. Haven't risked that. If everybody decided to cancel their direct debits and were careful to pay on time by phone, it would cost them a lot more to administer and they would probably get their act together. The phone number I use is 08715225037 and then just follow instructions with my agreement number to hand.

I am having the same problems with Santander as yourselves, and just don't know which way to turn or what to do next!
They have failed to take my direct debit from my account for my DFS sofa, every month this year. Resulting in me having to ring and make manual payments only to be assured that the DD would be taken the following month...it never has. I have never cancelled this DD and always have enough money to cover my bills in my account, so I have no idea why this started in the first place!
I am livid, as I have now failed a credit check for a new mobile phone and am really worried about the state of my credit record now, which I work hard to maintain at a good level. :-(
I never get any decent answers from Santander call centres and have no idea where or who to write to, with what paperwork. I would like to know what they have on their files regarding this account, can I get a copy somehow?
Please tell me that one of who has had a satisfactory resolution to your problems with Santander?
I for one have already told a couple of friends who are purchasing from DFS to ask who the finance is with and if it is Santander, don't bother!
Thanks in advance for your, hopefully, reassuring responses!

  • Hi All,

I see you have all suffered at the hands of Santander, thanks to DFS choosing them as a loans partner. However, with all the banks that have recently been discovered as having less than favourable business etiquette, the choice of loan partners is somewhat diminishing ;)

I am in a strange situation which differs from most of you. Santander have correctly collected my DD's. However, I made a full payment by card to pay it off after two DD's were processed and the third was due to go out. Then I discovered DFS had incorrectly filled in the loan form and included PPI which I didn't ask for.

I withheld the last DD (my card payment made an allowance for this) and sent them a cheque which they got around to cashing 10 days later.

My DFS statement arrived showing I still owed them the full amount of the last DD - no adjustment for the cashed cheque :( Maybe it crossed in the post :rotfl:

Thanks to KT/AT who published the DFS customer service e-mail address to which I have just re-sent the details. A pity knowledgeable people at Santander aren't so easy to get hold of.

Telephone 0871 5225037, ask for a postal contact address and put your request in writing.

Probably a good idea not to use so many commas and get someone to check over your letter before you send it.
