Wrong hourly rate on contract?

Sorry to keep bothering you and moaning, but I have another question.
I went for an interview today, it was from the directgov site, advertised at £6.50-£7.00 an hour for 30 hours.It is for homecarers, which I have 12 years experience of in nursing homes etc, it is through an agency, who find staff for the local council.
I had to fill a fair few forms in, took about one hour to do, and take proof of identity etc and other documents,qualifications etc. After I completed all forms, I had the interview, it all seemed to go well, and from what I gather I have the job, but when I was handed the contract to sign,which was 3 pages of very fine small print, the hourly rate was only £5.80, my interviewer said I could take it with me to read it all properly before I signed,and to take it to the job centre to get the £45 back I had given in order to get a CRB check.
The job was advertised for £6.50-£7.00 an hour and entails daily travelling etc to peoples homes, but on the contract it states £5.80?
I am not a very forceful person, so did not like to question the hourly rate at the interview, in case they changed their minds on me having the job.

I'm no expert but I would say don't sign yet. It wouldn't do any harm to maybe 'phone the employer and ask about the 'typing mistake' on the contract.
Also you mentioned an agency - are they taking a cut that would account for the difference?A man is rich in proportion to the number of things he can afford to let alone - Thoreau0
